Hi!

I’m Alexandra. An American girl living in Dublin, Ireland. I honestly document my adventures in travel, food, beauty, and expat life on a budget.

The Actual Cost of My Skincare Routine

The Actual Cost of My Skincare Routine

By now y’all should know I am nosey. I love to read anything where people go into their routines or finances so this Stephanie O’Quigley post on how much her skincare routine costs was right up my alley! Stephanie’s post has inspired me to check in on just how much I am spending on my own skincare routine.

I am doing a breakdown on my full skincare routine for morning and evening. If any prices were a weird amount like €6.91, I just went ahead and rounded up to the next euro.

MORNING:

I don’t wash my face in the morning with anything but a splash of water so that is FREE!

€3

My tried and trusted Glycerin and Rosewater toner from Boots is the best toner I have used in years.  Doesn’t hurt that it is the cheapest too and doesn’t contain too many ingredients.

Glossier Priming Moisturizer acts as a moisturizer and primer if you want. If I am doing a no makeup day, I will use only the Glossier moisturizer. As much as I do love this moisturizer, I am in the market for a less-toxic one with SPF. If you have any recommendations, please let me know!

€14

If I am wearing makeup, I will give my face a quick spritz of the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. I think we have all tried, or at least heard about this product at this point so no use in rambling on. Just know this product is used by everyone for a reason and smells so dang good.

 EVENING:

 €5.50

Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Hypoallergenic Facial Wipes are a recent addition to my routine. I usually hate face wipes, but these smell so nice, take my makeup off easily, and do not leave my face red after use. If you have a sensitive skin these are gentle and calming on the skin.

My friend introduced me to Konjac Sponges a couple of years ago and I have been using them ever since. They can be pricey online and in beauty stores, but TK Maxx basically always has them, so I purchase mine from there. One sponge lasts about 8-12 weeks.

€16

I use my Konjac Sponge to apply my Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. I put this all over my face and neck. I got a facial once and the therapist told me to wash my neck too or else it will age faster than my face! Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser is great to use on other parts of your body too if you suffer from breakouts other places besides your face.

€37

I use the Image Skincare Clear Cell Salicylic Gel Cleanser after cleansing my skin with the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. This smells so good and a little bit goes a long way. I treated myself to this when I was getting a facial with a voucher. I wouldn’t normally buy such a pricey face wash myself but my skin is worth investing in!

If I have worn a bit more makeup than normal or my mascara is being stubborn and won’t budge, I reach for my L'Oréal Paris Micellar Water Normal to Dry Skin 400ml. I thought I would never use any other micellar water besides the Garnier one, but this has won me over.

I’m not sure if you’re meant to apply The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 30ml on your entire face but I use it only on my chin where I tend to break out. I can tell a huge difference between when I am using this and when I am not. After this step, I apply the Glycerin and Rosewater toner once again.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 30ml

€7.70

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA is cheap and cheerful. I panic bought a few of these when it was rumored that The Ordinary was going out of business, so I am set on night-time moisturizers for the foreseeable future.

There are a few of the Garnier Moisture Bomb Hydrating Face Sheet Masks that I love including the Pomegranate Hydrating Face Sheet Mask, the Lavender Hydrating Face Sheet Mask (ideal for long plane rides!), and the Moisture Bomb Green Tea Hydrating Face Sheet Mask. These are great to do one to two times a week to make sure your face is staying hydrated.

The Pure Active 3 in 1 Clay Mask Scrub Wash can be used as a wash, scrub or mask. I have only ever used it as a mask and typically only use it on my chin where I experience most of my acne. This straight up smells like an ashtray but it works.

TOTAL COST: €131.70

I feel like my skincare routine is fairly affordable. I don’t use anything too crazy and compared to some of my friends I don’t use that many products. I like to keep it as simple and affordable as I can, and I think I have done a pretty good job of that.

This has made me want to look how much my makeup routine costs! I can already tell you that number would be much more significant.
