March 2019 Favourites
Hi, friends! Remember in February when I said it had been a tough month? That was because I was dealing with everything that has/is going to happen in March. This has been a very stressful and unexpectedly expensive last few weeks. It is just one of those seasons of life right now which makes me hopeful I will have an unreal, and hopefully much more affordable summer.
I had a wisdom tooth removed a couple of weeks ago and it was not as dramatic as I thought it was going to be. I had planned on fully being out of commission for a couple of days but I was fine. I couldn’t open my mouth all the way for the first day without some pain but it was much easier than I thought it would be. I actually didn’t even know that the dentist had taken my tooth out! She brought the chair back up and I was like, “so, when are you going to take the tooth out?” and she had already done it!
Tomorrow I will be going in for surgery and will be out of commission for a few days. I know, I am getting a lot done this month. But when it rains, it pours. I will probably write a post on what I am having done/how I found out, etc. but I’ll see how I feel once I am out. Sorry for being so vague but I’m not ready to go into full detail yet. It is nothing life-threatening but I will be in the hospital for a few days and need about 4-6 weeks to recover. Of course, I will be listening to my body during that time to ensure I heal properly. So, if I need more time, I’ll take more time.
WHAT I WATCHED:
QUEER EYE – Season 3 could not have come at a better time. I just had my wisdom tooth removed when season 3 hit Netflix. It’s like the Queer Eye gods were watching out for me. Did I look/feel my best while watching this? Uh huh hunny, but I am loving that they have moved locations and are now helping women too! Of course, I cried every episode too.
LEAVING NEVERLAND – This was a lot to handle. I’m glad it is broken into episodes so you can process what you’ve just watched. I don’t really have much to say on this because there really are no words. I haven’t stopped thinking about this since I watched. The thing that really upsets me is how stupid the parents were. At first, I thought maybe they were just a bit naïve, but after thinking about it I’ve concluded that they are just total idiots. Why would you ever leave your child alone with an adult that you do not know? Had they not been left alone in the first place, the tragedies that occurred could have been avoided.
WHAT I READ:
FOSTER’S BOOK OF IRISH MURDER - Calling all true crime and Irish history fans! Oh, just me? I got this for Christmas, and I was so excited to receive it. It was such a thoughtful gift. The book itself is cool looking and would look great out for decoration but it is what is inside that is the best! The book focuses on infamous and lesser-known murders in Ireland. This is full of quick, but interesting short stories that you may not be as familiar with.
I also wanted to share some articles I found interesting this month.
I am so obsessed with Catastrophe y’all. It even made it into my February 2019 Favourites but Review: In ‘Catastrophe,’ True Love Is Not Convenient perfectly explains the relationship between the two main characters. Their real, not perfect, relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the show and sets it apart from other TV couples.
I swear the author of 6 Unexpected Ways Your Body Changes After 25 is me. The acne, the hangovers, basically everything she lists happened to me. A light but interesting read for all my ladies.
I love articles like 3 New York Bartenders on Whether They’re Judging Your Drink Order because I love to know if they are judging you and you learn a few drink/bar tips along the way!
WHAT THE FORECAST – Melissa from chasingbacklight had on this on her Instagram story and I thought it was so funny I asked her what app it was so I could immediately download it. Much more fun that my Weather Channel app!
Understandably, I haven’t been too adventurous in trying new recipes but between my tooth and an upcoming surgery. That said, I finally tried overnight oats and my life has been changed for the better. I am obsessed with this Peanut Butter Cup recipe. If you are a PB lover, you have to try this.
GLOSSIER ROSE BALM DOTCOM – Hey Glossier can y’all #sponsor me because I promote your products non-stop. I know I have mentioned this in two previous Favourites (May 2018 and July 2018) post but it is because it is just so good. I thought the birthday scent was the best but that was until I got the rose one over Christmas. If you love floral scents, then you will love this. I have even used this scent on dry spots on my hands. The weather has been all over the place in Ireland and my lips are the most chapped they have ever been so this has been a constant companion of mine these last few weeks.
RIMMEL WONDERWING EYELINER – Like every basic bitch in 2012/2013, I constantly rocked the black liquid liner cat eye look. Maybe it was the fact that I moved away from my roommate who could do this perfectly and I always had done do it to me, but I stopped wearing it. Over time my already subpar ‘flick’ skills diminished and I lost my confidence in even attempting the look. Well, I recently decided to give it a go again. I knew what kind of tip I liked and Rimmel is one of my top drugstore brands, so my choice was easy. My flick still isn’t the best, but it is getting there and this a nice change from the same old, same old.
CAN’T STOP USING:
NET BAGS – I picked these up at IKEA a few weeks ago after seeing them around and looking online. I must have been looking in the wrong places because I got these two bags for €4 and everywhere, I looked online was around €20+. These hold more than they look like they will, and it is so much better than single use plastic available at the stores. I don’t keep my fruit and veg in these once I’m home, but I know some people do to keep them fresher for longer.
A GIFT TO GIVE:
LOVE THE MUG - I think I saw this on Instagram, but I can’t say with certainty. Wherever I saw them though, it could not have come at a better time because my friend’s birthday was this month and this mug that I ordered for her was the most perfect gift I could’ve found. They have such cute gifts for your mom, girlfriends or even yourself! I love the ‘Miles Apart’ ones for those who live far from their loved ones. Love supporting small Irish companies!
The only purchases I really made this month were loungewear (and a scrunchie!) for after my recovery. I looked up what I would need in terms of a hospital bag/post-op on the HSE website and Pinterest and was able to gather a sense of what I should go in with. Some lists basically suggested bringing everything and the kitchen sink but I’m going to stay as light as I can and if I find I need anything along the way I can deal with it then. I might do a post on what I packed when I am recovering because most of the lists I found were dated.
I also did get a breakfast in bed tray so that when I start working again, I can work comfortably from bed or the couch. I purchased mine from The Organised Store which I think is basically the same as The Container Store back home. It was €25 but the upside is I’ll be able to use it for breakfast in bed after I’m all healed!
I am going to start listening to Becoming by Michelle Obama while I am in the hospital but if you have any movie/show/book recommendations please send them my way because I am going to need them to avoid boredom. You can send them here or you can always DM me on Instagram. Thanks, gals! See yah in a few weeks!
