Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk

Railway Line Long Shot.JPG

The Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk is one of the most popular attractions that Bray has to offer. The Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk is a great way to get out of Dublin for the day and feel like you have travelled much further than down the road. If you have yet to complete the walk be sure to add it to your list!

DISTANCE:

Approximately 7 kilometres long.

HOW TO GET THERE:

There is parking along the seafront in Bray. We were on our way to park in Bray, but the traffic was crazy, so we parked at the Shankill DART station (free on Sundays!) and took the DART from there. Once we arrived in Bray and saw the madness of the carpark, we were very happy with our decision. If you can take the DART, do as it is the easiest option. Taking the DART allowed us to easily get back to our car from Greystones after the walk.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE?

It took us about 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete – this is including time to stop for photos and exploring other little offshoots off the main trail. Most websites I checked beforehand recommended giving yourself 2 hours to complete the walk.

WHAT TO WEAR:

Active gear. Anything that is easy to move in and you are comfortable in. I would say if you have proper hiking shoes/boots, wear them. I wore a pair of running shoes and it was fine. Absolutely do not wear sandals!

We also brought a backpack and I thought I would be the only one on the trail with one but so many people had them! It is good to keep your water/wallet/camera/etc. in. Also, as it is Ireland, do not forget a rain jacket!

IS IT SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE?

I would say no. Before I did the walk, I saw an online recommendation of not bringing a buggy (stroller) and I would pass this on. Some parts of the walk can be quite steep so bringing young children may not be best. I am not a parent and each child is different so it is really your call but I know I wouldn’t want to bring a child on this walk, ha!

As I said, the walk can be quite steep and other parts of the walk were uneven. I am extremely clumsy and was waiting to trip or fall on the walk. If you have any major mobility issues I would not recommend the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk.

THE WALK:

Bray Promenade in Bray, Co. Wicklow, Ireland

The walk begins from the Bray Promenade – follow this up towards Bray Head. Trust me, you will not miss it. Keep following the path around to the left and start your cliff walk! The walk is marked and extremely straightforward so you will not need a map.

The Cliff Walk follows the coastline and boasts some of the most amazing views of the East Coast. The Cliff has a rich history and is brimming with wildlife and colourful flowers. When you come around the head, the terrain flattens out and you will find yourself walking through gorgeous fields. Once you hit this part you will know Greystones is near!

This was my favourite part of the walk because it was so peaceful walking through the field hearing the water in the background. It didn’t hurt that it was the easiest part of the walk either!

OTHER BITS TO NOTE:

You can bring your dog on the trail, but they must be kept on a leash.

Once in Greystones we had our first meal out at Sonny’s. It was delicious – especially the draught pint of Sam Adams! If you find yourself in Greystones be sure to check it out – and get the chili beef and cheese fries!
